The University of Edinberg was founded in 1583, is the sixth oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of Scotland’s ancient universities. The University of Edinberg academic structure is based on three colleges containing a total of 22 schools.

The University’s position as one of the world’s leading research universities, and Scotland’s top ranked research University, has been reaffirmed by the 2008 UK RAE results. The results demonstrated that 63% of the University’s research activity is in the highest categories (4* and 3*), of which one third is recognised as “world-leading”. These results reinforce the University’s ranking as one of the world’s top universities according to the Times Higher Education’s international league table.
