Australian Immigration Biometric requirements for Myanmar
The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) has started to collect biometric data through its Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC) in Yangon for all visa applicants from Myanmar from 7 October. This biometric data will be collected from all visa applicants who are in Myanmar at the time of making an Australian visa application, unless they are exempt or excluded from doing so.
Visa applicants who apply in person at the AVAC will be asked to provide biometrics at the time of the application. Applicants who post their applications to the Australian Embassy in Yangon will receive a letter asking them to attend the AVAC in person to provide their biometrics. Applicants who apply for a visa online may be asked to attend the ACAC in person to provide their biometrics.
The required biometrics will be in the form of a non-intrusive scan that captures facial image and a 10 digit fingerprint scan. This is similar to the biometrics currently required of Pakistani visa applicants.
This is likely to have an impact on visa TATs, so it is important that applicants from Myanmar are advised to lodge their visa applications as early as possible.
