What the top universities don’t want you to know about graduate jobs

Australia’s little known regional universities beat the top institutions in major cities for producing graduates who find jobs, according to new data from the federal government that, for the first time, compares the job outcomes for all universities in the key discipline areas.
In the highly competitive business and management degrees, the Northern Territory’s Charles Darwin University and Armidale’s University of New England are the top performers, with 89 per cent of students finding full-time jobs within four months of graduation. This is closely followed by the NSW regional Charles Sturt University and the University of Southern Queensland with 87 per cent employment.
Charles Darwin University is also the best for graduate jobs in the science and maths discipline and the engineering discipline, where virtually all of its graduates had jobs within four months. Charles Sturt University is also a top performer over a number of fields, with 99 per cent of its legal graduates finding jobs within four months and equal top in producing science and maths graduates who find jobs.
However the prestigious sandstone universities reasserted themselves in information technology, with ANU, the University of Melbourne and UNSW the top three in producing IT graduates who found jobs. Check out the employment results for all universities in major discipline areas in our interactive table which also shows what graduates earn in their first year.
